Sick Of The Answer Hitting You The Second You Walk Out Of The Exam?
Turn ‘I Knew It, I Just Messed Up’ Into Marks That Finally Match What You Know… Discover The Way Of Learning That’s Taken Every Single Student Who Ever Trained With Us Until The HSC To A Band 6 Or E4
We’ll make your next maths exam feel like you’ve seen the paper early.
Whether Band 6 feels just out of reach or you’re chasing the very top of
the state, the way you’re about to learn maths will turn the mark you hope
for into the mark you expect…
Rank-One Students Cross Sydney Every Week For This Class
Some travel an hour each way, straight past a dozen closer tutoring centres.
What pulls them is simple: maths taught so it actually makes sense, in a room of students
who want it as badly as they do.
Sit The HSC Before It Counts.
The HSC Premiere. Two papers under real exam conditions, marked to HSC standard, ranked, then explained line by line in the seminar that afternoon. Top 10 earn a place in the HSC Masterclass.
There’s No Such Thing As A “Silly Mistake” (And The Sooner You Realise, The Sooner Your Marks Will Soar)
Dear students (and the parents reading over their shoulder),
Let us guess how your last exam went.
You walked out feeling okay. Then, between the hall and the bus stop, the mistakes started popping in your head like notifications you can’t swipe away.
The step you skipped. The sign you flipped. The part (c)(iii) you would have solved given one extra minute.
So by the time the paper came back, you already dreaded what you’d find.
The negative sign that vanished, the 2x that became an x. Your mark sitting 10 to 20 below what you know you’re capable of…
“I knew how to do it. I just made silly mistakes.”
(Said by every maths student in NSW, after every exam, since forever.)
Silly mistakes aren’t real. After years of pulling apart lost marks with students from schools all over Sydney, we can tell you that every mistake is due to one of three things:
You lacked familiarity with that style of question.
You lacked precision in your working.
There was a concept you understood 90% of the way, and the exam found the missing 10%.
None of those are silly. In fact, calling them “silly” is what keeps them happening.
Silly means random. Bad luck. A one-off. You can’t always win against bad luck.
So the advice has never worked. Your teacher writes “careless!” in the margin. Your parents tell you to check your work again. Your tutor says “be more careful next time”… Playing it on repeat since Year 7.
But if “be more careful” was ever the answer, it would have fixed it somewhere in the last five years.
Everyone makes mistakes. That’s an undeniable fact. Even the students at the top of your cohort mess up sometimes.
So how do some students walk out of the HSC with a confident state rank? (And even if you’re not going for one, steal this secret anyway.)
For every mistake they made, we developed a checking mechanism that was targeted for the exact reason that mistake occurs. Then we drilled it over hard papers until that type of mistake got vaporised.
To the untrained or admiring eye, it looks like they just don’t make mistakes. But actually, they’ve made every single mistake they’re capable of making. At least once, before it was addressed.
Now imagine every mistake you make between now and the HSC gets the same treatment. Picked off one by one. How many would still be left by exam day?
Why Another Term Of Ordinary Tutoring Won’t Save You
Familiarity
Most tutoring papers are nothing like the HSC. Most recycle the same textbook exercises your school teacher gives for homework.
Some pride themselves on being harder than anything the HSC would ever ask. Hard-for-the-sake-of-hard trains you for a competition that doesn’t exist. Often, straying far off the syllabus, teaching you content NESA isn’t even allowed to assess.
You might grind all year, then be shocked by the unfamiliarity of the real thing because it looks nothing like what you trained on.
(Our papers match whatever exam is next. For your school’s assessments, we write to your school, including the occasional tiptoe past the syllabus some schools like to take. When it’s HSC season, it’s pure HSC style, all in-syllabus. So by Year 12, whatever paper comes next, our students feel like they’ve seen it early.)
Precision
15 minutes left in the exam. You’re half a page into the last question and it isn’t cracking. Push on for marks you might not get, or go back to check the marks you think you already have?
You weren’t taught exam decision-making, nor how to properly check once you’ve finished, so all you can use is common sense.
You flip back to question 13, or the multiple-choice that felt shaky, and start solving it again from scratch. Pen racing. You finish with seconds to spare, having “checked” one question with the last part still sitting there half-done.
Almost nobody teaches how to combat this. The worst part is it’s assumed to come with being “good at maths”.
The plan, if you can call it one, is that you’ll figure it out on your own: sit enough exams, get burned enough times, and miraculously stumble onto what works. Trial and error, hoping that your HSC won’t be the error.
The missing 10%
What do the students at the top of the state know about maths that nobody ever showed you?
Well they’re certainly not memorising more than you. They’re not even necessarily working harder than you. They’re simply thinking more than you.
And not just any thinking. One very specific kind, and almost nobody is teaching it.
Take a formula. Most students only care about what numbers to sub in, when to use it, and the catchiest mnemonic or rhyme to put it in your brain.
The kid who will top the state wants to know where it came from, how to derive it from scratch, and what happens if one small condition changes.
Take a worked solution. Most students copy the steps and check the final answer matches.
Top students want to know why that step and not another, whether there’s a faster method, and whether the same idea would crack a question they’ve never seen before.
. It’s the single biggest thing separating most students from the exceptional ones at the top.
Here’s what should excite you. Nobody up there was born with it. It’s a muscle.
They trained it, one good question at a time, being asked “why?” and not having an answer over and over, until asking “why?” themselves became second nature.
Something clicked that most students never get to experience. That learning was never meant to be passive, and class started feeling like a game they didn’t want to lose.
Which means YOU can do this too. Forget the whether you’re smart enough. The real question is whether anyone has ever actually trained you.
Because like any muscle, if you’re not training it, it atrophies. And you won’t find out how much until you see the question at the back of the exam that looks like nothing you’ve ever seen.
So be honest with yourself.
When was the last time a tutor paused halfway through a solution, turned around, and asked YOU why that step works? And then refused to move on until you could say it, or express you didn’t know.
When was the last time a tutor gave you a question that looked routine, but where the usual method subtly gets you the wrong answer, and waited to see who’d catch it?
When was the last time you said “ohh, I get it” and somebody didn’t take your word for it?
When was the last time you asked a question and the lesson actually changed direction because of it?
Because if you can’t remember, then you haven’t the faintest idea how far you could actually go.
Here’s Just A Fraction Of What You’ll Get When You Train With W²…
Find Out What You Don’t Know About The Topics You’re Surest Of
Pick the topic you’re most confident in. Within one lesson, we’ll show the question on it that’ll give you pause, and the side of the concept you didn’t know as well as you thought. We expose you to the tiny nuances in all corners of the syllabus. That’s what separates our students from the rest of the state.
Questions Nobody Has Seen Before, Written In-House Every Week
We don’t recycle textbook sets that you’d find in every other tutoring homework. We also don’t believe in burning through recent past papers. Those are intentionally left untouched, so when exam training comes, they’re still brand new to you. Instead, our mentors write original questions calibrated to real school exams and HSC difficulty. So every week you’re practising non-routine problem solving skills on material you’ve never seen before.
Heuristics That Buy Back Minutes In An Exam (Your School Won’t Teach You This)
Small patterns you internalise until hard questions expend less mental effort. Proof scaffolds you could use half asleep. Notation habits that halve your working. The stuff that turns a question that used to stall you into something straightforward. It’s the difference between confidently finishing the last question, and staring at it helplessly when time is called.
A Mentor Who Knows You By Your Handwriting
Classes are kept tight and collaborative on purpose. Your mentor knows you, not just your name, and we treat your marks as if they were our own.
Help In Your Pocket Seven Days A Week
Any question, at any hour, goes in the W² Discord and gets worked through with you PROPERLY, not just answered with a link to the solutions. The students who use it most are the ones who end up outworking, and outperforming, everyone.
The Methods The Top Of The State Use (That Will Blow Your Mind)
Your school shows you the way that’s easiest to explain. We show you the way that’s fastest to write. Every one of them has been stress-tested by our own students, many of whom went on to score 98 and above, with some even achieving state ranks.
Train With Students Who Want It As Badly As You Do
Here, you aren’t told to “be realistic”. You’ll learn alongside students, some who are rank 1 of their school, some working their way to a state rank. All helping each other and levelling up together. Spend a term surrounded by peers of this quality, and something happens to what you think is possible for you.
“I joined W2 education with a few mates from school after a poor Task 1 result. William is exactly how he portrays himself on social media - he speaks with such a clarity that I previously hadn’t expected to be so crucial to the tutoring experience. Remarkably, William conducts each lesson with a prescience, his ability to foresee and correct students’ mistakes being one of the qualities only great teachers possess. Beyond being a teacher, William’s pragmatic and mentorial approach to the class was extremely helpful in overcoming our ‘barriers’ to improvement. He transformed my perspective of 4U maths as a subject requiring ‘creativity’ and experimentation, not merely raw intelligence; he made me realise that 4U is as accessible to the average student as any other subject, and I wish I had known this earlier in my HSC journey. I would not hesitate in recommending William to anyone with an eagerness to learn things once and not have to look back on fundamentals ever again.”

“William was an amazing teacher during the holiday course. His constant reiteration of how concept is valued over memorisation on his social media really attracted me to W^2 Education. And he truly embodied the teaching philosophy he promoted throughout these two days. Every formula he showed to us, he didn’t just shove them in our faces like normal high school teachers, instead he calmly explained the logic behind every step and patiently answered every question we had. If you are a student that thrives off logic and explanations over rigid steps and memorisation, 100% would recommend W^2 Education.”

“I couldn’t sing higher praises of William and the team at W2 education. William had crafted a specialised, school-specific course for myself and fellow classmates who had no prior tutoring experience. His highly conceptual approach to learning, willingness to accomodate for our schedule and mathematical knowledge proved all to be extremely helpful in drastically improving my extension math results towards what I could only dream of. I would highly recommend William as a tutor for any student and can’t thank him enough for the guidance and support he provided me.”

“I attended w2’s 3 day holiday accelerator for extension 1 maths. There I received excellent teaching from William who was dedicated and very passionate in his teaching. Throughout the classes there was a heavy emphasis on conceptual depth within each topic providing a higher level of understanding then what school provides. Ultimately I thought the classes were greatly taught and will help with my hsc this year.”
